Who will train my dog?
The owner of Midlands Canine Training. Fourteen years in the dog industry, a former veterinary technician, an IACP Professional Member, PCKA certified and a Fear Free Certified Professional. Your dog trains and lives with the owner for the whole program.
Where does my dog stay?
In our home, not a kennel or a facility. Your dog is part of the family, sleeps indoors, and is never left alone in a noisy kennel at night.
What does balanced training mean?
We reward good choices and hold your dog accountable for bad ones, with clear and fair feedback. Your dog learns what is expected everywhere, not just during a training session.
Do you use e-collars?
Yes. Dogs in the 14 day Adventure Dog and 30 day Behavior Modification programs are e-collar conditioned. Puppies are not. A certified professional coaches you on all of the equipment before your dog goes home.
What equipment comes home with my dog?
All equipment is included in the program price. Every boarding dog goes home with a treat pouch and a 50 foot long line. Dogs in e-collar programs also go home with their own new e-collar.
How does the deposit work?
A $300 deposit reserves your dog's spot in any boarding program. It is nonrefundable, but it can be credited toward a different program, or toward the same program on a different date.
What does the guarantee cover?
Your dog's lifetime, with free ongoing support. If old habits come back, you get 3 free private lessons, and if needed, 2 more weeks of boarding at no extra charge (limits in contract).
How does the consult work?
The consult is $20 and happens in person. We meet you and your dog for a short behavior evaluation, usually about 30 minutes, and recommend the program that fits. Text or call (864) 397-0477 to book.
Which program is right for my dog?
That is what the consult is for. Severe reactivity or aggression points to the 30 day Behavior Modification program. For the 14 day Adventure Dog program, starting with the 7 day House Manners program is recommended, but not required.
What does my dog need before boarding?
Every boarding dog needs to be up to date on rabies, DHLPP and kennel cough (Bordetella) vaccines, and you'll need to show proof of current flea and tick prevention.
Do you offer any discounts?
Yes. Active military, veterans, first responders and teachers get 20% off all programs. The discount doesn't apply to the $20 consult and can't be combined with the discount for ongoing lesson clients. Mention it when you book.
What areas do you serve?
All of Richland and Lexington counties, SC, including Columbia, Forest Acres, Blythewood, Irmo, Chapin, Lexington, West Columbia, Cayce and Gilbert.
